Data we collect
Account data you provide (name, email, password hash, optional ORCID, institution, bio, and field expertise), content you create (papers, versions, reviews, comments, endorsements, citations, follows), and minimal technical data (IP address for rate limiting and abuse prevention).
How we use it
To operate the platform: authenticating you, attributing your work, delivering reviews and discussion, generating AI summaries, computing reputation, preventing abuse, and sending email verification.
Legal bases
We process data to perform our service to you (contract), to comply with legal obligations, and for legitimate interests such as security and integrity of the scientific record.
AI processing
Paper text may be sent to a third-party model provider to generate plain-English summaries and answer questions about a paper. Generated artifacts are labeled and remain subject to author review.
Your rights
You can access and export your data, correct your profile, and request erasure at any time from Settings. Where applicable under GDPR, CCPA, and PIPEDA, you may also object to or restrict certain processing.
Data retention
Account and public scientific contributions are retained while your account is active. On deletion, your account and personal content are removed; co-authored papers persist with your authorship link removed to preserve the integrity of shared records.
Children
Science Orbit is not directed to children under 16 and we do not knowingly collect their data.
