Open access by default

Traditional journals often charge readers to access articles and sometimes charge authors thousands of dollars to make a single paper open. That model slows science and excludes people who cannot afford access — including researchers at smaller institutions, independent scholars, and the public whose taxes often fund the research in the first place.

On Science Orbit, a paper goes live as a preprint the moment you publish it. The full abstract, AI-assisted summary, version history, public reviews, and downloadable PDF (when provided) are available to every visitor. You assign a license up front so reuse rights are explicit.

At publish time you select a license such as CC BY 4.0 (attribution required), CC BY-SA 4.0 (share alike), or CC BY-NC 4.0 (non-commercial). The license appears on every paper page so readers and re-users know the terms immediately.

Open access does not mean “no rules.” It means the rules are clear, public, and designed to maximize reuse while respecting author choice.

Toll-access publishing hides knowledge behind paywalls and often delays release until review is complete. Science Orbit publishes first, then adds scrutiny in public. Readers never need to wonder whether a paper exists — they can always find the latest version and see its review lifecycle status.

We also export citations in BibTeX, RIS, and APA so open work is easy to reference in other publications and tools.
